My latest teal green patch is cooking in the sun.īecause i live in Seattle I figure I should be able to buff that thing about 2 or 3 months from know. It may look lighter in the shade, it may darker in the sun.Ĭarefully wet sand from the old paint into the new paint.īuff the old paint next to your patch without hitting the patch.Ī light touch with a brand new wool pad and just wax.Īnd then leave it alone again for a month When you are happy enough with the tone of the paint, Not the gloss or the reflectivity of the paint. You want lots of paint for the next step. On the next coat, a little wet sand to knock it down and find the high and low. That radious helps you avoid that hard line. Spray carfully over that edge from a distance when you fog that first coat. Instead lay the tape down and curl the edge back so it is radiused and standing up. Ive had pretty good results by changing the angle and the distance when I spray and by laying on a thin coat, let it cure, another coat, let it cure.ĭont use a hard line of tape. It reflects light differently and that catches your eye. The hard part with a metallic is the "flip and the flop"īasically how the metal flake lays down when you spray it. You still have to do normal auto body work to get it close.įeathered edges, no hard lines, surface built up to the same level, etc. The wesco 20 minutes away was a 2 can minimum for 58 bucks.Įven some NAPA stores can make spray cans if you have no other option. My local wesco auto would only mix a 4 can minimum for 168 bucks. Go to an auto body supply store with your paint code.īut, shop around. I bet if I used a black primer it would have matched much better. I think my problem was using a light colored primer under such thin paint. From Project Vehicle Series to individual How-To Videos demonstrating how to get the best results for your project. The green tone looks good, and the metalic looks OK, but its too light, even after 4 coats. The dirtyness is from spending the night under a pine tree. I didn't do any final sanding/polishing of the clear, what you see is straight out of the can. Everything went smoothly, even though I was painting outside on a cool, breezy day. I used almost the entire can to do about 4ft worth of bed rail (2 on each side, under a cross bed toolbox). The plus is that it goes on smoothly, the minus is that it doesn't cover. I sprayed every first coat very light and got progressively thicker with subsequent coats. I followed the directions on the cans pretty carefully. I sanded with an RO sander to get the rust and chips and junk off, then shot it with 2 coats of filler primer, sanded with 500 by hand, then shot 4 coats of Duplicolor Perfect Match (matching my paint code of course) and 2 coats of the duplicolor clear. Since the entire job was going to be covered and protected by the rails I didn't try to blend anything, just masked it straight and went for it. I have always wondered about those Duplicolor spray cans they always have on the shelf at O'Reillys, Autozone, etc and I had some rust under my toolbox so I decided to do a bit of repair work before putting rail caps on. For an Amethyst to form, there needs to be a presence of silica and ferric iron in the water. The second factor in how Amethyst forms is the environment it is formed in. Aside from basalts, this gemstone can also, though not very commonly, be formed in hydrothermal veins and sedimentary rocks. The inside walls of the basalt become the base for how Amethyst forms. These rocks act as vessels that contain minerals and water over time, creating the well-known white-purple crystal formation. It is formed inside igneous volcanic rocks called basalts, which are created by volcanic lava. Just like other geodes, Amethyst requires a hollow space in which a crystal cavity can form. The first key "ingredient" is a hollow rock. It is a formation of a hexagonal crystal system that can be found in large cavities and smaller rock look-alikes called geodes.īecause they are thousands of years old, sometimes even prehistoric, Amethyst geode formation carries energetic information that spans all of those years.Īmethyst is a result of three key factors working together. What makes it unique is its distinctive purple color. About Amethyst GeodesĪmethyst geodes belong to the family of Quartz crystals and they are typically found in North, South, and Central America, with Brazil being one of the most famous homes of Amethyst mines. A study posted on Science Direct implies that even gas reservoirs in simple volcanic rocks are a result of more complex chemical processes than we thought.Īmethyst geode formation is pretty magical, and if it has sparked your attention, read on to discover how Amethyst forms. The very process of formation is a long and complex one. We can easily say that Amethyst volcanic geodes represent some of the most beautiful and most complex gifts of nature. You'll be in awe of how amazing Mother Nature is and why owning an Amethyst Geode is so special.Īmethyst is one of the most popular healing gemstones in the spiritual community (and it's certainly our favorite). The pair of ram's horns were said to have belonged to the ram sacrificed by Ibrahim in place of his son Ismail as held by Islamic tradition. Undefined decorations, money and a pair of ram's horns were recorded to be inside the Kaaba. Apart from the paintings of pagan idols decorating the walls, which were destroyed at the behest of Muhammad after his conquest of Mecca, there were also paintings of angels, of Ibrahim holding divination arrows, and of Isa ( Jesus) and his mother Maryam ( Mary), which Muhammad spared. A statue of Hubal (the principal idol of Mecca) and statues of other pagan deities are known to have been placed in or around the Kaaba. Various sculptures and paintings were held inside the Kaaba. Setting aside any tribal feuds, they would worship their gods in the Kaaba and trade with each other in the city. Once every lunar year, Bedouin people would make a pilgrimage to Mecca. Prior to Islam, the Kaaba was a holy site for the various Bedouin tribes throughout the Arabian Peninsula. She suggests that most of these goods were destined for the Roman army, which is known to have required colossal quantities of leather and hides for its equipment.Īccording to Islamic cosmology, the Zurah pilgrimage site was the precursor to the Kaaba. She argues that Meccan trade relied on skins, hides, manufactured leather goods, clarified butter, Hijazi woollens, and camels. Crone later on disregarded some of her theories. Other scholars such as Glen Bowersock disagree and assert that it was. Historian Patricia Crone has cast doubt on the claim that Mecca was a major historical trading outpost. Background "Muhammad at the Ka'ba" from the Siyer-i Nebi. Author Patricia Crone disputes this etymology. al-Bayt al-ʿAtīq (Arabic: ٱلْبَيْت ٱلْعَتِيق, lit.'The Ancient House') in 22:29 by Allah Īccording to historian Eduard Glaser, the name "Kaaba" may have been related to the southern Arabian or Ethiopian word " mikrab", signifying a temple. In the Qur'an, from the era of the life of Muhammad, the Kaaba is mentioned by the following names: The literal meaning of the word Ka'bah ( Arabic: كعبة) is cube. Historyįurther information: Religion in pre-Islamic Arabia Etymology According to the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, 6,791,100 external pilgrims arrived for the Umrah pilgrimage in the Islamic year AH 1439 (2017/2018 CE). However, the most significant increase in their numbers is during Ramadan and the Hajj, when millions of pilgrims gather for Tawaf. The Kaaba and the Mataaf are surrounded by pilgrims every day of the Islamic year, except the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah, known as the Day of Arafah, on which the cloth covering the structure, known as the Kiswah (Arabic: كسوة, romanized: Kiswah, lit.'Cloth') is changed. The area around the Kaaba where pilgrims walk is called the Mataaf. Circling the Kaaba seven times counterclockwise, known as Tawaf (Arabic: طواف, romanized: tawaaf), is a Fard (obligatory) rite for the completion of the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. Īccording to Islam, the Kaaba was rebuilt several times throughout history, most famously by Ibrahim ( Abraham) and his son Ismail ( Ishmael), when he returned to the valley of Mecca several years after leaving his wife Hajar ( Hagar) and Ismail there upon Allah's command. In early Islam, Muslims faced in the general direction of Jerusalem as the qibla in their prayers before changing the direction to face the Kaaba, believed by Muslims to be a result of a Quranic verse revelation to Muhammad. The current structure was built after the original building was damaged by fire during the siege of Mecca by Umayyads in 683. It is considered by Muslims to be the Bayt Allah (Arabic: بَيْت ٱللَّٰه, lit.'House of God') and is the qibla (Arabic: قِبْلَة, direction of prayer) for Muslims around the world. The Kaaba ( Arabic: ٱلْكَعْبَة, romanized: al-Kaʿba, lit.'the Cube', Arabic pronunciation: ), also spelled Ka'ba, Ka'bah or Kabah, sometimes referred to as al-Ka'ba al-Musharrafa (Arabic: ٱلْكَعْبَة ٱلْمُشَرَّفَة, romanized: al-Kaʿba l-Mušarrafa, lit.'the Honored Ka'ba', Arabic pronunciation: ), is a stone building at the center of Islam's most important mosque and holiest site, the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. If you doubt your backyard abilities with a pair of tire irons, your dealer should be able to slap these babies on your OEM wheels or, if you want to run the Silverbacks only in mud but swap back to a more general purpose tire afterward, install them onto another set of rims for a few bucks. Mount up was only slightly more difficult than a standard all-purpose tire swap thanks to that chunky tread mentioned above, which actually stiffens up the sidewalls even on down to the bead. In our case the 27 x 10 x 12 size was chosen (which just so happens to be the cheapest and smallest of the Silverback line) meaning our tread depth measured up at 1.5 inches. The Silverback is available in a variety of sizes from 27” on up to 32 with varying tread depth in accordance with the tire diameter: 27″ – 1.5″ 28″ – 1.75″ 30″ – 2″ 32″ – 2.5″. We slapped a brand new set on our Can-Am Outlander 650 and headed straight to the nastiest mud pit we could find to do a little playing er testing as it were. Enter the Silverback the company’s first foray into the rough and tumble mud-specific tire arena. It is also these kinds of riders that Gorilla Axle has made a name for itself in catering to with a full line of heavy-duty suspension and drive train components. It’s these riders who seek tires with more meat than an average butcher’s shop, air intakes with snorkels that could make a skin-diver envious and suspension numbers that might seem more at home on a monster truck than on a quad! While there are riders out there who do their best to avoid puddles and occasional slop as they traverse their favorite trails, there are an equal number of individuals who deliberately seek out the nastiest, soupiest, muddiest pits the world has to offer to test their ATV’s prowess. Roaring through the goop like King Kong up the Empire State Building With the burgeoning of microbreweries throughout the region, malted barley is a bigger deal than one might think. The Barton facility will specialize in taking malted barley, shipped in from Wisconsin by rail, on to craft breweries around the Northeast. “It allows us room for expansion and growth in the future,” Couture Trucking president Dwayne Couture said.Ĭouture's firm, which employs 26, primarily handles transportation of dry bulk goods, such as dairy feeds. “We're excited to have it operational,” VRS assistant vice president Selden Houghton said of the new facility. VRS operates the line as part of its statewide system, which encompasses about 325 miles. The railroad in question is the Connecticut River branch of the Washington County Railroad, which is owned by the state. Construction began in 2014, when it became evident that an existing transload facility run by Couture down the railroad line in Lyndonville was operating at capacity. The facility occupies 80 acres three miles north of Barton village, at the railroad's crossing of May Farm Road. VRS will have its own vintage passenger coaches on hand in case attendees need to get out of the weather. The event, which will run until about 1:30, will feature light refreshments and a question-and-answer session about the facility. The two companies will christen the new facility with an open house at noon on Thursday, December 8. In 2019, LIRC was awarded Railway Age Short Line of the Year.Vermont Rail System photo of new transload facility in Barton.īy CB Hall Vermont Business Magazine In collaboration with Troy's Couture Trucking, Burlington-based Vermont Rail System (VRS) has completed a new transload facility in Barton. Since this program began, LIRC has partnered in two overpasses being built and with 77 grade crossings receiving upgraded warning devices and another 11 scheduled for 2023. In 2018 LIRC, in partnership with INDOT, began upgrading the warning devices at its crossings. Respectively, the improvements allow speed to market and our customers to maximize their shipping weights offering greater economic advantages vs. gross weight on rail to an industry standard of 286,000 lbs. The 2018 completion of this project allowed LIRC to increase from 25 mph to 49 mph and improve its railcar capacity from 263,000 lbs. The Southwind improvements included replacing the 1930’s era 130# jointed rail with 136# continuous welded rail (CWR), new ties, added two new 10,000 ft. The agreement gave CSXT a non-exclusive freight railroad operating easement over the LIRC and, in exchange, CSXT would fund improvements over the LIRC main track. In April 2015, the STB approved the plan between CSXT and LIRC, which allowed both railroads to entered into a Joint Use Operating Agreement in June 2015. The most notable project was the Southwind Upgrade, which commenced in 2014. Leading up to 2012 many improvements were made along the LIRC to support the demands of new and organic growth. LIRC was formed in March 1994 to acquire 106 miles of rail line between Indianapolis and Louisville from its former owner Conrail.
